Boutros Ghali 12/03/1998 - 28/07/2005

An accomplished academic with a strong background in law, international affairs and political science, Ghali was a diplomat, jurist, and widely published author. As Egypt’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ghali attended Camp David and played a role in the peace agreement between Egypt and Israel. His tenure as the sixth UN Secretary-General remains controversial. The Rwanda genocide, the civil wars in Angola and in former Yugoslavia, the effectiveness of the UN and the role of the US within, all entangled together. Although not the first vetoed Boutros Ghali was the only Secretary-General not elected for a second term. Ricardo Karam twice interviewed Boutros Ghali once in Paris, France and once in Beirut, Lebanon.
