Educated in Monaco and at Amherst College in the USA, Albert II assumed powers after the death of his father and was sworn in as Monaco’s 32nd head of state on 12 July 2005. A member of the International Olympic committee and an enthusiastic sportsman, he formed the national bobsled team in which he helped compete in five straight Olympic Games. Albert is also patron of Monaco’s football teams. Seeking to reinforce Monaco’s reputation as a major banking center, Albert is also keen on attracting high-tech industry to the country. The interview with Ricardo Karam took place in Monaco, Monte Carlo.
